AirAsia X to launch Paris route in February 2011

Who wants to sponsor my Paris trip to celebrate the occasion in the romantic city of Paris with wife & also my 30th birthday.

Malaysia's long-haul budget airline AirAsia X will launch a Kuala Lumpur-Paris route -- its second stop in Europe -- in February next year, the carrier's chief executive said Thursday.

The airline will start four direct flights to Paris' Orly Airport weekly from February 14, with one-way promotional fares as low as 499 ringgit (99 euros, 160 dollars).

"We have always been enthusiastic in venturing into a new European country since we launched London," AirAsia X's chief executive officer Azran Osman-Rani said in a statement.

"The establishment of this new route is a significant achievement for us and is a reflection of our commitment to expanding our international operations further.

The airline said the inaugural flight date was chosen as its Valentines Day gift for those "who want to celebrate the occasion in the romantic city of Paris".

Approval for the carrier to land in Paris was announced by Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak during a visit to Paris last year after a meeting with French President Nicholas Sarkozy.

It will be the second route in Europe for Southeast Asia's biggest budget airline, after it began a London service in March last year.

An affiliate of regional low-cost carrier AirAsia and Virgin Group, AirAsia X was launched in January 2007. AirAsia and AirAsia X have common shareholders, including AirAsia founder and CEO Tony Fernandes.

The airline currently has eight aircraft and will have 11 by December. It has also placed an order for 17 Airbus A330s and 10 A340s.

Nokia

Are you familiar with this phone? Have you ever own this phone before? Nokia 3310 was my first hard-earned handphone in year 2002. Nokia 3310 was one of the most successful Nokia phone & everyone (at least my friend) always jokingly said you could use Nokia 3310 to hit crab because of its size. I'm unwilling to abandon it, because of this, it is sitting in my store room now.

My second phone was Nokia 6020, but I've accidentally dropped it few weeks ago. Read about it here. After surveying for few weeks through internet & handphone shop, I decided to buy Nokia phone. Am I loyal to Nokia? Sony Ericsson, HTC, iPhone, Motorola has never crossed my mind. Hehehe.

Coincidentally, thru friend, I came across someone is willing to let go her Nokia E72. This phone was like brand-new except some scratches on its screen. The most attractive part is it still has 8 months Nokia warranty. Quickly, I grabbed this unit. I love this phone so much as it can sync email, facebook, youtube & appointment. I'm still a loyal Nokia user since year 2002.

Motorola Droid X vs iPhone 4

If you are iPhone fans, you would have noticed iPhone 4 has antenna issue. Read here. Read also here. Motorola, by any chance, give a jab to iPhone, besides promoting his Motorola Droid X, a new phone based on Google Android.

Motorola 1st jab on iPhone 4.
"And most importantly, it comes with a double antenna design. The kind that allows you to hold the phone any way you like and use it just about anywhere to make crystal clear calls.”

And Apple iPhone hit back by this
iPhone4 Antenna

Motorola 2nd jab on iPhone 4.
"At Motorola, we believe a customer shouldn’t have to dress up their phone for it to work properly. That’s why the DROID X comes with a dual antenna design. The kind that allows you to hold the phone any way you like to make crystal clear calls without a bulky phone jacket. For us it’s just one of those things that comes as a given when you’ve been making mobile phones for over 30 years."

Don't you think this is creative advertisment? Let's wait for iPhone to response.

In the mean time, if you are touchscreen fan & blackberry fan, you may think iPhone like blackberry interesting. Blackberry 9800 bold with touchscreen capability, cool. Read here.

iPhone jailbreak is legal

Are you iPhone fans? If you are, it is probably a good news to you.
iPhone jailbreak has been legalised in US. Read here. It means you can unlock the iPhone legally without being sent to jail. Now, you can buy iPhone from any where in the world, google iPhone jailbreak & slot in your sim card. Don't you think this is a good news? Good bye Malaysia exclusive carrier, Maxis & Digi.

Wiki stated that AirAsia will commence this route on 7th Dec 2010. Click here.

AirAsia To Offer ¥14,000 Malaysia-Japan Flights

KUALA LUMPUR (Nikkei)--Budget Malaysian carrier AirAsia Bhd said Tuesday that it plans to launch its first flights serving Japan by the end of the year, selling one-way tickets between Kuala Lumpur and Tokyo for as low as 14,000 yen.

Operated by AirAsia X, AirAsia's long-distance airline, the flights between Kuala Lumpur International Airport and Tokyo's Haneda airport will begin at a pace of three per week. But the company aims to ramp up to seven flights as soon as possible, AirAsia Chief Executive Officer Tony Fernandes told The Nikkei.

The flights are expected to use Airbus SAS' A330 aircraft. The Japanese government has already allotted landing and takeoff slots to AirAsia X at Haneda.

At present, the cheapest round-trip airfares for Japan-Malaysia flights sell for more than 40,000 yen. Saying that the one-way fare for its flights will likely cost less than a cab ride from Tokyo to Narita International Airport, Fernandes expressed his confidence in the service's success.

The CEO sees the flights attracting passengers in Malaysia as well, pointing out that Japan is becoming increasingly popular as a tourist destination among people in Southeast Asia. The company hopes to also launch service between Malaysia and other major Japanese cities, such as Osaka, Nagoya and Fukuoka, Fernandes added.

Since beginning full-scale operations in 2002, AirAsia has grown sharply by offering low-cost flights. As of the end of 2009, the company served 136 cities in a total of 18 countries and areas. AirAsia saw its passenger traffic jump 24% to about 22.7 million last year, topping Singapore Airlines Ltd.'s roughly 16.3 million to become the biggest airline company in Southeast Asia.

Weekend breakaway to east coast

Together with a university buddhist friends, we headed to Sg. Lembing. The Friday night was young & 300km travel to east was our destination: peaceful town named Sg. Lembing, Pahang: A town formerly known for its tin mining. By the time we reached Sg. Lembing at 1:45am, we were totally exhausted. I'm not young anymore :-(

The guest house that we booked was in tip-top condition. In a blink of seconds, we called it a day. Time past and we woke up at 5:30am to start our day, tasted the infamous Sg. Lembing beancurd. The smooth & fresh beancurd & Sg. Lembing noodles filled up our empty stomach. At 6:30am, we took 4WD to rainbow waterfall, our first destination of the day.

Half way through the bumpy ride to waterfall, we managed to see sea cloud as though we were in heaven. After 1 hour ride, we started our jungle trekking to the waterfall. Walking ups & downs the jungle for about 45 minutes, we reached rainbow waterfall. I will let the pictures do the talking.

We played water with our fellow friends & had maggi instant noodles & milo while enjoying the scenic rainbow waterfall. After 10:30am, we climbed up waterfall to view circle (360 degree) rainbow on the water. Unfortunately, we did not have waterproof camera, hence we were not able to capture the beautiful rainbow.
Coincidentally, Bomba had their rescue practice & we were able to have a shot with the colourful helicopter. (When they practice, many trees fell down as the wind was too strong. Unfortunately, I forgot to captured the devastation.)

In the evening, we went to Teluk Chempedak for beach walk & Pak Su seafood for our dinner. Nothing much to comment about these 2 destinations. Normal seaside & acceptable seafood dinner.

On Sunday, we woke up at 4:30am for Panorama Hill hiking. I could assure you that there were more than 300 hikers today. Unfortunately after our one hour hiking, we were not able to see sea cloud & sunrise. The weather was not in good condition. Luckily we saw it yesterday on the way to rainbow waterfall. This was the weather at Panorama Hill today.
After spending some time at Panorama Hill, we headed down the hill & cleaned up. We visited Sg Lembing Museum, hanging bridge, Charas Cave & had a sip at Kemaman coffee on our way back to complete our journey.

We are back to hustle and bustle city.

Stop Outsourcing and Create American Jobs Act of 2010

Protectionist US moves worry Indian tech firms

New delhi: Indian exporters of software and related services are seeking to tap an expected increase in technology spending in the US, their biggest market, but concerns of protectionist barriers in the world’s largest economy are still rife.

Late last month, Congressmen Gary Peters, Tim Bishop and Jerry McNerney proposed another legislation to curb outsourcing to countries such as India. Called the Stop Outsourcing and Create American Jobs Act of 2010, the Bill aims to discourage US firms from shipping jobs overseas.

“Outsourcing has contributed to unprecedented job losses in my home state of Michigan over the past decade,” Peters said in an email on the rationale for the legislation.

Indian software exporters have been hopeful of receiving a boost from the US recovery from recession that prompted US clients to slash technology spending. Industry body Nasscom has forecast that exports would rise to $57 billion (Rs2.65 trillion) in the year to next March from $49.7 billion in the last fiscal.

If enacted, the legislation proposed by Peters, Bishop and McNerney would allow the US government to give preference to firms not engaged in shipping jobs overseas in awarding contracts. It deters US firms from using tax havens and creating jobs overseas by increasing civil and criminal penalties for illegal transactions involving a tax haven country, such as fraud, false claims and tax evasion.

“I don’t believe that the US government should be rewarding companies that move jobs overseas with contracts funded by American taxpayers,” said Peters, a Democratic member of the US House of Representatives. He referred to two non-partisan studies to back his argument. While the Congressional Research Service says 3.4 million service sector US jobs would be outsourced overseas by 2015, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) said in a 2009 study that around 83 of the 100 biggest public corporations have subsidiaries in tax haven countries.

Nasscom has been lobbying with US senators and policymakers for several years now to stop any such legislation from going through.

“Any kind of Bill which penalizes IT outsourcing would lead to distortion in the globalized marketplace,” said Ameet Nivsarkar, vice-president, global trade development, Nasscom. “There have been quite a few Bills aimed at curbing outsourcing that have been introduced recently. The high unemployment rate in the US—9.5% in June—is a big challenge and the government there is trying various ways to create more jobs. But we have to see how many of such legislations are actually passed and become law,” he said.

Infosys Technologies Ltd, India’s second largest software maker, is not feeling the heat of anti-outsourcing sentiment in the US, but is keeping a close watch on the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Bill which yet to be introduced, CEO S. Gopalakrishnan said on Tuesday.

The Bill, being initiated by Senator Charles Schumer, is expected to focus on H-1B and L1 visas given to IT and other professionals and could possibly impose some restrictions on them. Infosys plans to apply for 3,000 visas this fiscal.

“The success of such Bills depends on (the) length to which people would go to stop outsourcing. Barring companies from participating in government contracts could be one of the ways to punish them for outsourcing,” Bala Rajaraman, a partner at consultancy Deloitte, said.

Another cause of worry for the software industry is the American Jobs and Closing Tax Loopholes Act, which is on similar lines as the Stop Outsourcing and Create American Jobs Act. While the former has been passed by the House of Representatives, it is yet to be cleared by the US Senate.

“With the elections to the US Senate scheduled to be held in November, the protectionism sentiment will only rise in the months to come,” said the CEO of a leading business process outsourcing firm, who did not want to be identified.

Back to reality 2

Just realized previous post Back to Reality was accidentally uploaded with wrong image. TRW Automotive Services (TAS) was no longer in existence since 1st Feb 2010 & the sign board above should be changed to TRW-Rebadged. Below is our new identity.

TAS gave me a comfortable working environment & learning. The exposure has helped me go further. I met up many friendly & easy-going colleagues & friends here. Time past & most of TAS-ian lunch gang have left as you can see in the image.

Today, I'm still on a rough sea with 3 other lunch gangs, looking forward for a good harbour to dock. Hopefully TRW-rebadged will be on another good ship & harbour soon. Pray hard!!!

Back to reality

Last day of June, it marks the end of my busy month. In this month, I was very busy with house, wedding (KL & Taiping) & Bali honeymoon. I was away from office for 10 days. (ooopps, just realized I worked 10 days only).

First, transform our phase 1 renovation towards a place we called a home. This task was one of the challenges we had. We thought of many furnishing idea, visiting to IKEA & furniture shop. Now phase 2 renovation has been completed. This photo showed phase 1 design. Stay tuned.

Second, plan for our KL wedding. From zero to 100, we had to do ourselves. Actual day morning session, hosting outstation relatives & friends, transportation arrangement & wedding dinner (dishes, guest list & etc). It was not an easy task.

Third, plan for our Bali honeymoon. We bought our ticket last year during Air Asia promotion. Now everyone can fly. We took 5 days 4 nights free & easy trip to Bali. LeyKian helped me to spot the places of interest & recommended us a good & reasonable tour guide.

Fourth, once we back to KL, we rush back to hometown for our wedding luncheon. This round, it repeated the second step above & we were more prepared this time.

Fifth, we are poorer now & back to reality again..... Stay tuned for the full updates later.

Heaven or Hell

Am I in heaven or hell??? Don't get me wrong, I'm not blogging this while I'm there. I'm neither in heaven or hell if I'm not lazy to use the staircase. I'm sure you did not get what I meant. See below.

To all my beloved friends & colleagues,
Please control your smoking habit as it is not good for your health & family. Whenever you smoke, please consider your families/friends.

Recently I notice the staircase at office has become a smoking zone for smokers. The smoke has gone from bad to worst. Whenever you open the door, you could see the smoke billowing up. This is not a healthy situation or something to proud of. The staircase looks like in heaven. But you are actually in hell. (I apologize for using this word, but that is my feeling).

I guess you know smoking is bad for health. Try to get rid of this bad habit slowly. I believe you can.

Busy busy busy

Being caught up with many activities recently. From knowledge transfer -> Interview -> wedding planning (meeting up with friends, finalizing guest list, liaise with vendors) -> house cleaning. I wish after Jun I will have more time. I want an easy life.

Childhood Montage

Our pre-wedding photos are 250 pictures only (1 day shooting). Our wedding album package allow us to choose 62 pictures to be included into our wedding album. At first, we felt the process was very tough to exclude 188++ pictures.

But we are wrong now when we tried to choose our childhood pictures. From the day you are born till now, let's say 30 years old. Assume you have 2000 pictures (I guess you have more than 2000 pictures), you need to filter out to less than 100 pictures (about 4-5min slide presentation), you will have mixed feeling whether to exclude the pictures. Every pictures has its own stories. We would like to add every pictures but it will our guests boring as the presentation will be dragged too long. Everyone has crossed our lives & we had mixed feeling to exclude them. Finally, after few days of filtering, we have just finalized our childhood montage pictures. Hopefully we have included everyone in our lives.

Our experience is choosing pictures which represent our lives is even harder than choosing pre-wedding photos at bridal shop. Experience it & you know what I mean.

Modular wardrobe

Check out the attachment if you are planning to do wardrobe. It is a modular unit, just mix-n-match your preferred columns & sum up the total. That will be your wardrobe cost. Do you think this idea is brilliant?

Side note: Before you get this, just take note on your wardrobe size especially height. Your house (landed, condo or apartment) staircase/lift maybe too narrow & do not have enough room to transport the modular unit to your bedroom.

Mother's Day

I wish to celebrate this coming Sunday with you, but you are only with me in memory. Let's celebrate it in memory. Back to 1996-1999, the most memorable memories I had with you. You taught me about life, caring, tolerance & how to take care the family members. I hope I did not disappoint you. I miss you so much.

Every year 14th Feb is 母难日. A day daddy & you brought me to this world. It's not a day to celebrate with friends, but a day dedicated to both of you. Now I'm big enough to form up family. Have you received my message that I will be getting married next month. I know that you are always with me, to bless me with a happy marriage. I miss you.

Now, let me briefly introduce to you my pretty wife, your daughter-in-law (媳妇). Her name is chooipeng, an Ipoh girl. Click original & design for all the wedding photos. I hope you can touch the photos.

This will be biggest mother's day present for you. I hope you will receive it with a big laugh. Oh ya, she will serve you a cup of sweet daughter-in-law tea later. Be patient ya. :D

Friends, It will be Mother's Day on this coming Sunday. Have you plan something for your lovely mum?

Unpleasant Monday Morning

It was unpleasant Monday morning with all unwelcomed experienced.

1. House autogate dismantled & sent for repair.
2. Car remote control spoilt
3. Motor seat lock faulty.

All faulty items above are related to "security". Later after work need to send car remote control & motor seat lock for repair. I hope the damages is not much.
Tips, I'm not in good mood today. Stay away from me today to avoid being treated unpleasantly. I hope it is the end of faulty items for the day.

Income tax 2009

Just submitted my 2009 income tax. If you have not done it, please do it before EOD tomorrow to avoid penalty.

GE outdoor water filter

If you noticed, we had installed those cheap water filter at our house after water meter. Since Aug 2009, the filter has bursted twice. It gave me lots of headache. Being approached by Brandon for bulk purchase of GE outdoor water filter at RM999, we attended the product demo at Brandon's house on one weekend. This was the first time we attended outdoor water filter product demo. Wow, so many info.

After the demo, we were thinking & thinking. Finally decided to get an unit & arranged the installation to be on 18th Apr 2pm. Out of sudden, the cheapo water filter burst for 2nd time on Monday. With our full water tank, we thought it will be enough for us until Sunday, silly me. So, we washed clothes twice on Tue & Thu. Suddenly on Friday morning, the water was running slower than usual.... oh my god.... water tank become empty on Saturday night. Can you imagine no water? I think no electric is still alright for me, but no water is really hard for me. Serve me right!!!

Luckily the installer came to our rescue on time (no aeroplane, if not, no water again). Within 2 hours, he did the installation + water tank cleaning with his helper. We never realize our water tank will serve us free flow of teh tarik. Thanks to Syabas for your water quality.

The water pressure was very high (maybe limited owners move in) at my area. It was at 6-7 bar (87-100psi). No wonder my cheapo water filter burst twice.
We bought GE935 at RM999. Suitable for 3-4 persons usage concurrently. It is a manual valve (3 years warranty) that required us to do backwash & fast rinse once a week (depend on water quality). It is able to filter up to 5 micron sand. Typical filter in the market. Among the materials in the fibreglass tank (10 years warranty) are activated carbon, zeolite, fine, medium & coarse silica sand. The carbon has 6-9 months life span. Maintenance cost is RM380 for every 4 years. Hopefully this filter will give us peace of mind & teh tarik will be lesser.

Our next item will be indoor water filter. Another round of knowledge gathering again.
